Riding Towards a Cure was started as a way to honor a close friend, Brett Barker who has Cystic Fibrosis, and give thanks to him for an introduction into a lifelong passion for motorcycles.

Cystic Fibrosis (CF) is an inherited chronic disease that affects the lungs and digestive system of about 30,000 children and adults in the United States (70,000 worldwide). In the 1950s, few children with cystic fibrosis lived to attend elementary school. Today, advances have extended life for children and adults with CF into their 30s, 40s. A defective gene and its protein product cause the body to produce unusually thick, sticky mucus that clogs the lungs and leads to life-threatening lung infections. CF also obstructs the pancreas and stops natural enzymes from helping the body break down and absorb food.

All net proceeds from the event will go the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation (CFF). CFF is the leading organization in the United States devoted to cystic fibrosis. CFF is one of the most efficient organizations of its kind. In 2007, 90 percent of every dollar of revenue raised was available to fund investment in vital CF programs to support research, care, education and ultimately finding a cure.
